IJ Start Canon Pixma MG6821– Canon Pixma MG6821 has a lightweight feature set, but due to the excellent document printing and photo quality, it’s a good choice for users with simple printing requirements.

The Canon Pixma MG6821 is a decent printer, provided you don’t need all the refinements offered by the best wireless all-in-one printers such as faxes or wired network HP Officejet Pro. Aside from the missing features, this is one of the best in-house inkjet printers we’ve tested, with above-average document and photo printing as well as the best printers we’ve tested.

In our tests, the Pixma printed documents with clear, readable text that was largely error-free. We have seen some ink stains, but only under strong magnification. Photo quality was rated among the best in our test report. The only real problems with printing the Pixma are average print speeds and pressure resolution, which is lower than other top-of-the-range inkjet printers. Documents and images scanned with Pixma’s flatbed scanner are of quite good quality, but the copy quality leaves something to be desired due to the lower pressure resolution.

Canon offers this superb photo quality with a second black ink cartridge, a black pigment ink that’s more suitable for photos. This fifth cartridge fits into the standard colours for document printing (black, cyan, magenta and yellow), which together account for an average of 18 cents per page when purchased at the manufacturer’s recommended retail price. That’s not fantastic-the category average is 15 cents per page-but it’s worth it for the top-notch photo quality. Canon does not offer high-capacity ink cartridges for this printer model, so standard sizes and prices remain in place. The printer’s 100-page paper cassette corresponds to an average inkjet printer for the home and has a special compartment for photographic paper that can hold up to 20 sheets.

The Pixma lacks a few important features, but if you don’t need them, the savings are worth it. First of all, there is no wired network option, so you only have Wi-Fi left. Although sold as an all-in-one printer, there is no fax function. These may not be essential features for you, but their absence is remarkable compared to other multifunction printers.

Cameras with a wireless PictBridge feature can be connected to the printer, but no cable cameras. However, it has built-in card slots for SD cards (including SD, SDHC and SDXC formats), as well as Sony’s Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Pro Duo.

Thanks to Apple AirPrint for iPhones and iPads and Google Cloud Print for Android devices, it offers good connectivity options for smartphones and tablets. You can also print wirelessly through Mopria-certified apps and Canon’s own Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app.

The Canon Pixma MG6821 offers a one-year standard guarantee comparable to other inkjet printers. The company offers both phone and email support, but there is no live chat option and no way to reach support staff through social media. However, there are numerous online support materials with a searchable manual, troubleshooting instructions, answers to common questions and special support forums available on the Canon website.
